Neutering is normal advice everywhere and still argued about here, usually on grounds that do not survive contact with a vet.
The objections you hear:
- "It is against nature"
- "He will become lazy and fat" -- weight comes from food and exercise, not from the surgery
- "She should have one litter first" -- there is no health benefit to this, and spaying before the first seasons substantially reduces mammary tumour risk
- "It changes their personality" -- roaming, some aggression and marking reduce, the animal does not become a different animal
- "It is too expensive"
Against that: no unwanted litters in a country that already cannot home the animals it has, no pyometra, much less roaming and fighting, and a longer life on average.
For anyone who has had it done -- what did it cost, in which city, how was the recovery, and did the vet send you home with pain relief? That last one is worth asking about beforehand, because it is not always given as standard.
