A loft in Punjab has to survive 45°C in June and standing water in monsoon, and most of the loft designs online were drawn for Belgium.
The things that seem to matter:
- Airflow without a draught blowing directly on perched birds
- Enough height that heat rises away from them
- A roof that does not turn the loft into an oven -- insulation, a double roof, or shade over it
- A floor that stays dry, and can be scraped
- Keeping rats, cats and snakes out
- Space per bird, which is the one everybody underestimates
Damp plus crowding is where most loft disease starts, so ventilation is a health question, not a comfort one.
