Buying early and fattening at home is a real business for some people and a loss for others, and the difference is usually in the plan rather than the animal.
Teddy goats are the most common choice because they put on weight quickly on modest feed, reaching 30-50 kg in eight to twelve months, which is why they fill the mandi every year.
What a good plan seems to need:
- Deworming and vaccination first, before any feeding programme -- feeding a wormy animal feeds the worms
- Gradual introduction of concentrate, because a sudden change causes bloat and can kill
- Enough clean water
- Shade and space, since an animal that is too hot stops eating
- Weighing regularly rather than judging by eye
Post your actual plan: what you bought, at what weight and price, what you fed for how long, what it cost you, and what it weighed and sold for at the end. Including the years it did not work out.
