There are more animals on the street than there are homes, and the ones that get adopted are almost always adopted by someone who was not looking for a pet that day.

If you took one in:

  • How did you find each other?
  • What did the first month look like -- health, fear, toilet training, other animals in the house?
  • What did the vet bill come to at the start?
  • What did your family say, and did they come round?
  • What is it like now?

Also useful for anyone considering it: what you would do differently. Quarantining a new street animal from the pets you already have, deworming and vaccinating before letting it into the house, and being patient with a frightened animal are the three that come up most.

If you know a shelter or a rescue group that is actually functioning in your city, name them.
